The nutrition week view

A client's whole week of food as a chart and a meal-by-meal matrix. The richest nutrition view in the product, and the two states that explain an empty one.

Topics: Client health

Basecamp shows a client's nutrition two ways: a day at a time, and a whole week. The week view is the one worth your time, and there is nothing like it on the phone.

The week at a glance

A total for the week and what percentage of the weekly goal that is, an average per day, and how many days were logged. A calorie chart plots each day, with a dashed line marking 100% of the daily goal. Days under and over the line are visible without reading a number.

Read days logged before anything else. An average of 1,800 kcal across three logged days is a different fact from the same average across seven. Only one of them describes the client's week.

The meal matrix

A grid of meals against days. Each cell shows calories on top and the number of items logged underneath. Those are the labels Basecamp uses.

This is where patterns show up. A row of empty breakfasts, dinners that climb through the week, snacks that only appear on weekends. All obvious here, and invisible in a day-at-a-time view. It is the most useful nutrition screen for a coach.

Insights, and what they are worth

Basecamp flags a few things for you: a macro lagging, with the percentage of the goal it reached, a day above or below the week's average, and calories remaining or over. They are arithmetic on what was logged, not judgments.

Treat them as prompts to look, not conclusions. "Protein lagging" on a week with two logged days means the logging is lagging.

Two different empty states

If you see nothing, read which message you got. The two mean different things and have different fixes.

  • Sharing off. Basecamp tells you the client has nutrition sharing turned off. They may well be logging, and you simply cannot see it. The same notice says any targets you set still apply as soon as they turn sharing back on, so it is worth setting them anyway.
  • Logging off. Basecamp tells you this client has nutrition logging turned off. Nothing is being logged at all. You can still set goals here.

Nutrition logging is your switch, not the client's. It lives in their preferences, alongside weight logging. If a client has logging off, you are the one who turns it back on. There is no setting on their side to point them at.

It is still an estimate

However good the chart looks, every figure came from a database entry, a photographed label or an AI estimate of a portion size. The week view is good for comparison and patterns. It does not support conclusions drawn to 50 calories.
