Logging food

  • Copying a day or a meal to another dateCopy a food straight to another date, or put it on the clipboard and paste it into any meal on any day. The clipboard holds one food for five minutes.
  • Editing the nutrition on something you loggedWhen a result's figures are wrong, correct them yourself. Edits apply only to your own log, and the app remembers them for next time.
  • Estimating a meal from a photoPhotograph a whole plate and get an estimate of the calories and macros. Built for home cooking and restaurant food, where there is no label to read. Portion size is the hardest part to judge.
  • Nothing found for that foodA search returned no results, or the camera could not read a label. What to try next, in the order most likely to work.
  • Photo scan or lookup limits reachedA free account gets 5 photo scans and 5 food lookups in total, not per month. What still works when they run out, and what does not spend them.
  • Quick add and suggestionsThe quick add panel offers your cookbook and suggestions based on what you usually eat. Where the suggestions come from, and why they are empty at first.
  • Saving meals to your cookbookSave the foods you log together as one reusable meal, then add the whole thing again in a tap. Up to 50 foods, and your history stays as it was.
  • Scanning a product with the cameraPhotograph the front of the pack and then the nutrition panel, and both are read. Two steps, a flashlight for bad light, and the barcode picked up automatically.
  • Searching for a food and logging itType a food name or a barcode, read the source and confidence on each result, set the serving, and log it. The most common way to add anything to your day.
  • Setting serving size and unitsChange the amount, switch between servings, grams, ounces, milliliters and fluid ounces, and know what to do when the serving is flagged as unclear.
  • Why food estimates vary, and how much to trust themEvery figure in the app is an estimate from a named source with a stated confidence. What each source is good and bad at, what the confidence badges mean, and where AI gets things wrong.

Copying a day or a meal to another date

Copy a food straight to another date, or put it on the clipboard and paste it into any meal on any day. The clipboard holds one food for five minutes.

Topics: Logging food

If you eat the same lunch three days in a row, you should not have to look it up three times. There are two ways to reuse something you have already logged, and they suit different situations.

Copy straight to a date

Open a logged food and choose Copy. The app asks which date to add it to and confirms before it does anything. This is the quickest route when you know exactly where it is going, typically yesterday, when you forgot to log at the time.

Copy to the clipboard, then paste

Choose Copy to clipboard instead and the food is held ready to paste into any meal on any day. Use this when you want to browse to the right day first, or when you are not sure yet which meal it belongs to.

1. Open the food and tap Copy to clipboard. A confirmation names what you copied.

2. Move to the day and meal you want.

3. Tap Paste food. The panel names what is waiting and how long is left on it.

The clipboard holds one food for five minutes

Two limits, and both surprise people once:

  • It holds one food at a time. Copying a second replaces the first.
  • It expires after five minutes. A countdown is shown on the paste panel so you are not guessing.

Leave it too long and the app tells you the food is no longer on your clipboard and asks you to copy it again. Nothing is lost, and the original entry is untouched where you copied it from.

Tap Paste with nothing copied and the app says so rather than failing silently.

Recent meals

The quick add panel also offers Recent meals, drawn from what you have logged lately, with a note of which meal you last had each one at. For food you eat often but have not saved to your cookbook, this is usually quicker than copying.

Copying a whole meal

Copy and the clipboard both work one food at a time. To move an entire meal to another day, save it to your cookbook instead and add it from there. That is what the cookbook is for, and it works on any day, any number of times, with no five-minute limit.
