Lesson 3 of 5Guide2 min read

Setting serving size and units

Change the amount, switch between servings, grams, ounces, milliliters and fluid ounces, and know what to do when the serving is flagged as unclear.

Topics: Logging food

In this lesson

  1. Changing the amount
  2. The five units
  3. "Sources disagree on this food's serving size"
  4. Typical serving
  5. Fixing it after logging

Serving size is where most logging errors come from. The food is usually right, and the amount is the part that slips. Every result in Workout Titan Nutrition arrives with a serving already filled in, and it is worth a glance before you log.

Changing the amount

Open the food and find Serving size on the Log tab. There are two ways to change it: the minus and plus steppers for a quick nudge, or the Amount field to type a specific figure. Tap Done when you are finished. Every number on the screen recalculates as you change it, so you can watch the calories move.

The amount has to be greater than zero. Anything else gets "Enter a valid serving amount greater than zero."

The five units

Measure amount in lets you switch between:

  • Serving: whatever the source calls one serving. The panel tells you what that is, so you know whether two servings means two cookies or two packets.
  • g and oz: weight, for anything solid.
  • ml and fl oz: volume, for anything you pour.

Weighing in grams gives the closest figure, because it takes the guesswork out of portion size. A kitchen scale does more for a food diary than any app feature. Servings are the fastest, and fine for anything portioned by the manufacturer.

"Sources disagree on this food's serving size"

This warning means exactly what it says: the sources checked gave different answers for how big one serving is. It is common for loose foods, bakery items and anything sold by the piece.

When you see it, switch the unit to grams or milliliters and enter a real amount. That sidesteps the disagreement entirely, because 100 g is 100 g whichever source you ask.

Typical serving

Search results show a typical serving as a starting point. It is a convention, not a measurement of what is on your plate, and it is frequently smaller than what people actually eat. Treat it as an opening offer rather than the right answer.

Fixing it after logging

Nothing is stuck. Tap the food on its meal card, change the serving, and the day's totals update. You do not need to delete it and log it again.

Workout Titan

Two apps, one focus: fitness done right. Coaching gives trainers powerful programs, live progress and instant adjustments. Nutrition turns your camera into a food log. Scan a pack, a label or your meal and the numbers are done.
