What your coach can see

Three things are shared while nutrition sharing is on: food logs, weight entries and end-of-day notes. What is not on that list, what your coach controls, and why nothing is ever shared retroactively.

Topics: Your coach & sharing

If you are coached, this is the article worth reading before you log anything. The app is specific about what sharing covers, and being clear on it from the start is better than working it out from something your coach mentions in passing.

What is shared

The Coaching screen names three things, in the app's own words: your coach can see new nutrition logs, weight entries, and end-of-day notes.

  • Nutrition logs: the food you record, with its calories and macros.
  • Weight entries: what you log on the weight screen.
  • End-of-day notes: both the rating and the free text. Worth remembering when you write one, because whatever you put in that box is shared.

Fasting sessions, hydration logs, your cookbook and your reminders are not named on that list. If you need certainty about a specific item, the quickest answer is to ask your coach what they actually see on their side.

What your coach controls

Seeing and controlling are separate things, and your coach does both. They set your calorie and macro goals, and they decide whether you can log your weight at all. Everything else in the app stays yours: your hydration goal, fasting, reminders and cookbook.

The day screen tells you

While sharing is on, a line sits on the day screen reading "Your nutritional information is shared with your coach." It is shown every time rather than once at setup, so you never have to remember which state you are in. The Manage account hub says the same thing more briefly: Connected and sharing, or Sharing off.

Nothing is ever shared retroactively

This is the most important rule in the whole arrangement, and it runs in one direction only. Sharing covers what you log while it is on. Turn it off and your coach sees nothing you log from that point. Turn it back on later and only new entries from that moment are shared. The gap stays private permanently.

So a two-week stretch logged with sharing off is never handed over, whatever you do afterward. You can use the app honestly through a difficult period and share again later without that period being visible.

The case for and against

The case for leaving it on: your coach sets and adjusts your targets from what they can see, so sharing gives them the whole week rather than part of it. Their plan also usually covers Pro for you, which includes photo scans and food lookups with no allowance to run down. That cover ends when sharing does.

The case against: it is your data, the switch exists for a reason, and you do not need to justify using it. Turning sharing off is a supported thing to do, not a breach of anything.

One thing sharing has nothing to do with

What you read in the Academy. Course progress is only ever visible to a coach on the small number of courses set up for it, and articles you read on your own are never reported to anyone. Reading about deleting your account is not something your coach finds out about.
