At Workout Titan, we use anonymous telemetry to help us fix problems, improve features, and keep the app running smoothly. This article explains what telemetry is, what we collect, how we collect it, and the controls you have.
What is app telemetry?
Telemetry is the automatic collection of technical and usage information about how the app behaves on your device. It helps us understand reliability and performance in the real world, without identifying who you are.
Telemetry at Workout Titan falls into two categories: event tracking and error tracking.
Event tracking
Event tracking records anonymous interactions within the app, such as which screens are visited, which features are used, and how often certain actions are performed. No personal content is captured. We see patterns like "Feature X was used 4,000 times this week," not what any individual person did. This helps us understand what's working well, what's underused, and where the experience needs improvement.
Error tracking
Error tracking captures technical information when something goes wrong: crashes, exceptions, failed network requests, and unexpected behaviour. Reports typically include the error type, a stack trace, the app version, and basic device information such as operating system and model. If an error message happens to contain something that looks like personal data, we scrub it before it’s stored. Error tracking helps us spot and fix issues quickly, often before most people ever notice them.
Why we use telemetry
We use telemetry for three main reasons.
First, to fix bugs and crashes. Crash and error reports help us identify issues faster, understand their scope, and prevent them from affecting more people. Second, to improve features. Aggregated event data helps us see which parts of the app are valuable and which need rethinking. Third, to monitor performance. We measure things like startup time, screen transitions, and responsiveness so we can keep the app fast across a wide range of devices.
How we protect your privacy
We designed telemetry with privacy at its core.
We do not collect direct identifiers. That means no names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise locations, contacts, or content of what you type. To link events from the same installation and understand reliability over time, we use a pseudonymous identifier. Specifically, your internal user ID is transformed using a salted, one-way SHA-256 hash before it is sent to our analytics provider. The raw ID is never transmitted. Any other event properties that could act as identifiers are also hashed before capture. A person profile is created against this pseudonymous hash, but it contains no personal information. It exists solely to group technical events together so we can analyse usage patterns and diagnose issues across sessions.
We practise data minimisation, collecting only what we need for reliability and product improvement, and we redact anything that looks like personal data before it reaches storage. All telemetry data is stored and processed securely, with access restricted to the people who need it to do their work.
Permission and consent
Telemetry is strictly opt-in. The first time you open Workout Titan, we ask for your permission before any events or errors are tracked. No telemetry data of any kind is collected or sent until you give that permission. If you decline, the app works exactly the same. You just won't be helping us improve it in the background.
You can change your mind at any time, and your choice takes effect immediately.
How to manage your telemetry preference
To change your setting, open the Workout Titan app and go to your Profile or Settings. Tap ‘Manage account’ to open the account modal. Find the ‘Usage analytics’ section, then toggle ‘Share anonymous telemetry’ on or off.
If you turn telemetry off, we stop collecting and sending new analytics and diagnostic events from your device.
