Logging food

  • Copying a day or a meal to another dateCopy a food straight to another date, or put it on the clipboard and paste it into any meal on any day. The clipboard holds one food for five minutes.
  • Editing the nutrition on something you loggedWhen a result's figures are wrong, correct them yourself. Edits apply only to your own log, and the app remembers them for next time.
  • Estimating a meal from a photoPhotograph a whole plate and get an estimate of the calories and macros. Built for home cooking and restaurant food, where there is no label to read. Portion size is the hardest part to judge.
  • Nothing found for that foodA search returned no results, or the camera could not read a label. What to try next, in the order most likely to work.
  • Photo scan or lookup limits reachedA free account gets 5 photo scans and 5 food lookups in total, not per month. What still works when they run out, and what does not spend them.
  • Quick add and suggestionsThe quick add panel offers your cookbook and suggestions based on what you usually eat. Where the suggestions come from, and why they are empty at first.
  • Saving meals to your cookbookSave the foods you log together as one reusable meal, then add the whole thing again in a tap. Up to 50 foods, and your history stays as it was.
  • Scanning a product with the cameraPhotograph the front of the pack and then the nutrition panel, and both are read. Two steps, a flashlight for bad light, and the barcode picked up automatically.
  • Searching for a food and logging itType a food name or a barcode, read the source and confidence on each result, set the serving, and log it. The most common way to add anything to your day.
  • Setting serving size and unitsChange the amount, switch between servings, grams, ounces, milliliters and fluid ounces, and know what to do when the serving is flagged as unclear.
  • Why food estimates vary, and how much to trust themEvery figure in the app is an estimate from a named source with a stated confidence. What each source is good and bad at, what the confidence badges mean, and where AI gets things wrong.

Photo scan or lookup limits reached

A free account gets 5 photo scans and 5 food lookups in total, not per month. What still works when they run out, and what does not spend them.

Topics: Logging food

Two messages in Workout Titan Nutrition bring people here: "Photo scan limit reached" and "Food lookup limit reached". They are separate allowances and they run out independently.

What the allowance actually is

A free account gets 5 photo scans and 5 food lookups. Not five a day, not five a month: five in total, for the life of the account. They do not reset, and there is no waiting for them to come back.

It is a trial rather than a free tier. Knowing that up front helps you decide where to spend them.

What spends one

  • A photo scan: identifying a product from photographs, or estimating a meal from one.
  • A food lookup: a fresh search for a food Nutrition has not resolved for you before.

What does not

Nutrition keeps working without either allowance. None of this spends one:

  • Adding a meal from your cookbook.
  • Logging something from your saved foods or recent meals.
  • Copying or pasting a food you already logged.
  • Editing nutritional values, changing servings, deleting entries.
  • Weight, hydration, fasting, end-of-day notes, reminders and the week view. None of these touch either allowance.

Nothing you have already logged is affected. An account with no allowance left is still a working food diary. What you lose is the ability to look up something new.

Spending them well

Use them on the meals you eat every week, not on a one-time restaurant lunch. Look the food up once, correct anything wrong, and save it to your cookbook. A corrected food becomes one of your saved foods and costs nothing thereafter, so five well-spent lookups can cover most of a normal week's eating for good.

What Pro changes

Pro removes both limits, so you can search or photograph as often as you like. It also adds a daily summary that reads your day back to you and points out what you might change. Tap See Pro from either limit message to see the plans and prices for your store.

If you have a coach

Whether your coach's plan covers Pro for you depends on which plan they are on. Performance and Infinity cover it, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to manage. The free plan and Momentum do not. It is also tied to nutrition sharing being on: turn sharing off and you go back to the free allowance until you reconnect.
