Posting an exercise update

Tell your coach what you actually did: sets, reps, how hard it felt, and anything worth saying. It is the main thing they work from between workouts.

Topics: Your programme

An exercise update is how you tell your coach what happened. If you train without them in the room, this is very nearly the only information they have. What you write here shapes what they programme next.

Posting one

Open the exercise and post an update. What you can fill in depends on how your coach set that exercise up.

  • Quick overview: the essentials only. Fast, and enough on a day when you are in a hurry.
  • Sets and reps: where your coach has enabled it, add a set at a time and record what you actually lifted, not what was prescribed.
  • Left and right: on single-limb exercises your coach may have turned on separate logging per side. Worth doing honestly, because a difference between sides is exactly the sort of thing they want to catch.
  • Overall difficulty: how hard it felt, on the RPE scale. "Rating effort with RPE" covers what each level means.
  • Miscellaneous: anything in words. This is where the useful stuff usually lives.

Submit and you get "Exercise update posted". Your coach is notified if they have exercise update alerts on.

Marking it complete

There is a toggle to mark the exercise complete when you submit. Use it when you finished the exercise as written. Leave it off if you got partway, and say so in the notes. A half-finished exercise with no explanation reads to your coach as a skipped one.

Completing cannot be undone, so it is worth a moment's thought rather than a reflex tap.

What is actually worth writing

"Done" tells your coach nothing. The updates that change what they programme next are the ones that mention the thing you nearly did not bother saying: the left knee that clicked, the last set that was much harder than the others, the four hours of sleep, the gym being out of the right dumbbells so you improvised.

One caution: your update is training information, not a medical record. Describe what happened rather than diagnosing yourself, and take anything genuinely worrying to a doctor rather than to a notes field.

If it does not save

You will be told rather than losing it silently, and Workout Titan Coaching can bring back your previous update if something interrupted you partway through. Try again when you have signal.
