Logging weight and body measurements

Weight can be logged by either of you, and measurements are always yours. The 10 sites Workout Titan Coaching tracks, why it needs at least 4, and how units are stored.

Topics: Progress tracking

Weight and measurements both sit on a client's profile, and they have different rules about who can record them.

Weight

Either of you can log it, depending on whether you have weight logging turned on for that client. You can always log it yourself from their profile, even when they cannot.

Enter it in whichever unit suits. Pounds and stone are stored exactly as typed, and the chart converts everything to kilograms so the trend line stays consistent. Workout Titan Coaching tells you this on the field rather than converting silently.

Measurements

These are yours alone. Clients cannot log their own, and the screen says so. There are 10 sites, in two groups.

  • Torso: chest, waist, hips, and height.
  • Limbs: arms, forearms, thighs and calves, recorded left and right. Where the two sides match you can enter one figure for both. Where they differ, record them separately.

Coaching asks for at least 4 measurements before it will save a set. That is a deliberate floor. A single waist figure taken in isolation tells you very little, and a pattern across sites is what makes the exercise worth doing.

Inches are converted to centimeters for the chart, exactly as pounds are converted to kilograms.

Taking them consistently

Circumference measurements are only as good as their repeatability. Tape tension, exact placement and whether the client is braced move the number more than four weeks of training will.

  • Same person taking them each time, which is why Coaching makes this coach-only.
  • Same landmarks, written down somewhere so you can repeat them in six weeks.
  • Same conditions: relaxed, not flexed, at a similar time of day.
  • Monthly is plenty. Weekly measurement mostly records noise rather than change.

Handling it with care

Being measured is more exposing than being weighed, and for some clients considerably more. Ask before you start, explain what you are recording and why, and accept a no without negotiating. The numbers are an input for tracking change over time, not a judgment about the client.

Entries can be deleted from the history if something was recorded wrongly. You are asked to confirm.
