Weight and measurement history

Trends with direction, on a screen big enough to read them. Everything is converted to kilograms and centimetres for the chart, whatever units it was entered in.

Topics: Client health

Weight and measurements each get their own log and their own chart, with more room to read them than the phone has.

The trend, with a direction

Each shows how many entries there are and which way the numbers are going: up, down or flat. Flat is a trend in its own right, not an absence of one. On a maintenance phase it is the expected shape.

Units are normalised for the chart

Basecamp states this on both pages. Anything entered in pounds or stone is converted to kilograms before it is charted; anything entered in inches is converted to centimetres.

So a client who logs in stone and a client who logs in kilograms produce comparable charts. A client who switches units mid-programme does not put a step in their own line. The original entry is kept as it was typed. Only the chart converts.

Worth remembering when you talk to a client. The chart shows kilograms even when the client entered stone, so the figure in front of you is not the figure they used.

Reading the weight chart

Daily weight is noisy. Water, salt, sleep, a late meal and where somebody is in their cycle all move the number. Any of them can move it by more than a week of genuine change. Read the shape over two weeks or more, because a single entry says very little on its own.

A gap in the log is not necessarily a client who stopped weighing. It may be a client whose weight logging you turned off, or one who has nutrition sharing off. Check before you ask.

Measurements move slowly

They are yours to take, because clients cannot log their own. Monthly is enough. A chart of weekly circumferences mostly shows variation in tape tension.

Measurements are most useful when the weight chart is flat. A client whose weight has not moved can still show a change in their measurements, and this is the only place in the app that records it.

Deleting an entry

Possible from either history, with a confirmation. Use it for a genuine mistake: a mistyped figure, or a measurement taken over clothing. Deleting entries that are correct leaves a chart that no longer matches what happened.

Workout Titan

Two apps, one focus: fitness done properly. Coaching gives trainers powerful programmes, live progress and instant adjustments. Nutrition turns your camera into a food log. Scan a pack, a label or your meal and the numbers are done.
