Building a workout for a client

Workouts belong to one client, hold the exercises you add to them, and appear in the order you set. How to create one and what to decide before you start filling it.

Topics: Workouts & exercises

A workout belongs to one client. There is no shared library of workouts that everyone draws from. You build it for a person, and if you want the same workout on somebody else you copy it across. That is worth knowing up front, because it changes how you name things.

Creating one

Open the client and add a new workout to their programme. Give it a title and it appears on their programme straight away. There is no draft state, so an empty workout is a visible empty workout.

With nothing built yet, the client's side says "No workouts yet". Build the first one before you tell them to look.

Naming it for the person reading it

Your client sees the title, not your programming logic. "Lower body A" is clear to you and meaningless to them on a Tuesday morning. "Heavy legs" or "Monday workout" does more work.

If you programme in blocks, put the block in the folder name rather than in every workout title. Repeating "Block 2" across six workouts just makes the list harder to scan.

Order is the programme

Workouts appear to your client in the order you put them in, and Reorder workouts lets you change the sequence by dragging. This is not decoration. For a client working down their programme, the order is the instruction about what comes first.

The same applies inside a workout: exercises have their own order, reordered separately.

Editing and deleting

Edit a workout at any time and the client sees the change immediately. There is no publish step, so avoid rebuilding a workout mid-week while somebody is halfway through it.

Deleting asks you to confirm and cannot be undone. If a workout is finished rather than wrong, moving it to a folder is usually better than deleting it. You keep the history of what they actually did.

Reusing one

Copy a workout and paste it into another client's programme rather than rebuilding it. The copy carries the exercises with it. Do not leave it too long between the two. The clipboard expires after 15 minutes.

Workout Titan

Two apps, one focus: fitness done properly. Coaching gives trainers powerful programmes, live progress and instant adjustments. Nutrition turns your camera into a food log. Scan a pack, a label or your meal and the numbers are done.
