Logging food

  • Copying a day or a meal to another dateCopy a food straight to another date, or put it on the clipboard and paste it into any meal on any day. The clipboard holds one food for five minutes.
  • Editing the nutrition on something you loggedWhen a result's figures are wrong, correct them yourself. Edits apply only to your own log, and the app remembers them for next time.
  • Estimating a meal from a photoPhotograph a whole plate and get an estimate of the calories and macros. Built for home cooking and restaurant food, where there is no label to read. Portion size is the hardest part to judge.
  • Nothing found for that foodA search returned no results, or the camera could not read a label. What to try next, in the order most likely to work.
  • Photo scan or lookup limits reachedA free account gets 5 photo scans and 5 food lookups in total, not per month. What still works when they run out, and what does not spend them.
  • Quick add and suggestionsThe quick add panel offers your cookbook and suggestions based on what you usually eat. Where the suggestions come from, and why they are empty at first.
  • Saving meals to your cookbookSave the foods you log together as one reusable meal, then add the whole thing again in a tap. Up to 50 foods, and your history stays as it was.
  • Scanning a product with the cameraPhotograph the front of the pack and then the nutrition panel, and both are read. Two steps, a torch for bad light, and the barcode picked up automatically.
  • Searching for a food and logging itType a food name or a barcode, read the source and confidence on each result, set the serving, and log it. The most common way to add anything to your day.
  • Setting serving size and unitsChange the amount, switch between servings, grams, ounces, millilitres and fluid ounces, and know what to do when the serving is flagged as unclear.
  • Why food estimates vary, and how much to trust themEvery figure in the app is an estimate from a named source with a stated confidence. What each source is good and bad at, what the confidence badges mean, and where AI gets things wrong.

Quick add and suggestions

The quick add panel offers your cookbook and suggestions based on what you usually eat. Where the suggestions come from, and why they are empty at first.

Topics: Logging food

Quick add in Workout Titan Nutrition is the shortcut past searching. It opens on the meal you are adding to and offers two tabs: Suggested and Cookbook.

The Cookbook tab

Your own saved meals, in one list. Nothing is estimated here, and that is the point. These are meals you built and checked yourself, so the numbers are the ones you entered.

The cookbook fills up from the meal card rather than from here. Log a meal properly once, tap the bookmark on the card and name it, and it is in this list from then on. Each saved meal also carries the meal you usually eat it at, and drops into that one by default.

The Suggested tab

Suggestions drawn from your own history rather than from what is popular generally. Nutrition looks at your recent meals and your eating patterns (what you tend to have, at which meal, on which sort of day) and offers a short list.

Anything offered here is marked as suggested by AI, so you always know a suggestion from something you saved yourself. Nothing is logged until you tap it, so a suggestion you ignore has no effect on your day.

Why it is empty at first

A new account has nothing to pattern-match against, so the tab says "Log a few meals and AI will suggest what you often eat". This is not a fault and there is nothing to fix. Log normally for a week and the suggestions arrive on their own.

The Cookbook tab starts empty for the same reason. It holds what you have saved, and a new account has saved nothing yet.

You might add

A separate prompt that looks at the day you have logged so far and points at gaps in it. It is a nudge rather than an instruction, and it does not know anything about you that you have not logged.

Check the serving, as always

A suggestion arrives with a serving already set, usually the one you last used. If today's portion is different, change it before logging. The suggestion is about which food, not how much of it.

What it costs

Adding something from Cookbook or from your recent meals does not spend a food lookup. Neither does fetching a fresh set of suggestions, even though it uses AI. Only two things spend the allowance: searching for a food Nutrition has not resolved for you before, and scanning a photo.

Saving meals to your cookbook covers building that list. Searching for a food and logging it covers the longer route in, for anything neither tab already has.

Workout Titan

Two apps, one focus: fitness done properly. Coaching gives trainers powerful programmes, live progress and instant adjustments. Nutrition turns your camera into a food log. Scan a pack, a label or your meal and the numbers are done.
